EMI is a Christian non-profit made up of architects, engineers, surveyors, and construction managers who value Design, Discipleship, and Diversity.

“People restored by God and the world restored through design.”

How does Research and Development (R&D) connect with a desire to involve the people of EMI in spiritual and professional discipleship more directly?

Fundamentally, R&D is not about the creation of new things but rather a discovery of God the Creator and His restorative work to make all things new. It is the study of how the built-form can reflect His glory.

On the African continent alone, there are staggering development needs that require innovative solutions. EMI’s research focus supports our project work in the region but can also engage a receptive design and construction industry with attributes of God... clearly perceived in the things that have been made (Romans 1:20).

Join with us by contributing to this year’s Growing Globally campaign to outfit new R&D laboratory facilities in Uganda. Help us disciple a new cohort of EMI and local industry professionals.

“These verses in 1 Corinthians speak to me about ‘blooming where you are planted.’ Planted as an Engineer, I saw the big picture on EMI pretty early.

Many in the world view engineering skills as uninspiring—but with EMI I could use them for the Lord.

I joined EMI’s ‘Society of Christian Engineers’ and joined a few project trips in the ‘80s. EMI was a way for ‘boring’ technical people to get out and see the world, to share and strengthen their faith.

When we reconnected with EMI at their 25th anniversary conference (2007), it was inspiring for us to see so many young people involved, serving the Lord in faith. We also liked seeing how many women were involved—that was a change from the ‘80s for sure.

We are in a wonderful financial position now, and I am asking, ‘Lord, what are you doing here? I’ve got to show good stewardship.’

My wealth, my earnings—they are God’s anyway, gifts He gave me. So I can leave that legacy for others.”

You can join the Frasers by making EMI a part of your planned giving. To learn more about leaving a legacy with EMI, contact Graham Frank at graham.frank@emiworld.org.

“The past five years at EMI India have been a humbling and exciting experience—especially with EMI’s transition from a design-only to a design-build company.

In my last company, I gained experience as a site engineer, supervising construction on a 12-storey building.

The shift from a site-only job to the EMI office has been good. With EMI India, I have gained knowledge and experience in structural design and have had opportunities to practice surveying.

I’ve also managed construction work for various projects. In the last two years, EMI India has undertaken two construction projects. Although the projects were on a smaller scale, it was a fantastic experience executing EMI’s designs.

I enjoy living in Delhi, as this city has so much to offer and the various ways it connects to any part of India.

I am grateful to God for the opportunity to serve Him through EMI in the different regions of this nation. I look forward to the bigger projects that lie ahead for our team.”

Surajeet and the EMI India team are looking for design professionals to join their team in Delhi. Find out more at: emiworld.org/in/team
