My journey with EMI over the past 12 years has been a journey through which God has shaped my professional skills, my perspective on people and organizations, and my understanding of the value of serving behind the scenes. Over time, I’ve learned to see how the different parts of our organization come together, and how each contribution can help create the foundation for others to thrive.

What I value about being part of EMI is being connected to a mission that reaches beyond our own organizations. It has helped me grow both personally and professionally, see things from different perspectives, and recognize how our individual contributions can come together to make a greater difference. I’m grateful to be part of a community working toward a vision where people are restored by God, and the world is restored through design.

It’s been a privilege to see EMI grow from the tiny staff of 1996 to the EMI world of today. Serving in many capacities, leading over 50 teams in over 40 countries, all while being VP of HR & Ministry Development and Global Director of Recruiting, I loved shepherding EMI, discipling volunteers, and investing myself in raising up staff for new EMI offices worldwide.

It’s been the crucible that has forged If You Must Stay, the book I’ve written (full of EMI stories) to inspire greater missional living and purpose in the western church. After three decades in missions work, I love being an engagement representative for EMI and as a speaker in churches, universities, mission conferences, and my Finding Your Fit workshops, my greatest passion is to inspire “finding your fit in God's plan to reach the world!” Find more at www.gary-macphee.com.
