How has EMI been weathering the COVID-19 storm?
EMI is a Christian non-profit made up of architects, engineers, surveyors, and construction managers who value Design, Discipleship, and Diversity.
From the CEO
The pace of change has increased rapidly in these last few months and the effects of The Fall have been more evident. ‘The whole creation has been groaning,’ as it says in Romans 8.
Yet this is not the end of the story. God will one day soon defeat sin, death, the curse and Satan! We and all of creation will be restored and all things will be new. We will be with Jesus face to face and not be terrified by His glory. We will reign with Him forever.
All of this has created in us a longing to see and taste restoration today. We at EMI will continue to work hard to adapt and pivot as His agents of restoration in the new reality brought about by the COVID pandemic.
I want to share a few of the ways EMI has responded so far. I hope you are encouraged to see how God has continued to lead EMI, as I have been.
Let us take courage and place our hope in God! He will lead us through the storm.

Virtual EMI project trip?
Locked-down EMI South Africa recently took a trial run at a virtual project trip! Staff and remote volunteers worked together over a two-week period to develop the design for a secondary school. The team used information gained during a visit to the site in Tanzania late last year.
COVID-19 peaks on the way
Our teams in India, Nicaragua, and Middle East–North Africa continue to closely monitor coronavirus developments. With the number of virus cases expected to peak over the next few months, they are navigating EMI under a growing strain of changing restrictions on travel and operation.
Training engineers in Haiti
Travel bans have not stopped EMI USA staff from working in Haiti. A three-year partnership with World Concern and USAID to enhance disaster resiliency in Haiti is moving forward with the training of six Haitian engineers. The team will work together (through video conferencing and remote coordination in the near term) to assess around 700 existing emergency evacuation shelters along the southern peninsula of Haiti.
