CEO John Dallmann on the state of EMI around the world

core-values

EMI is a Christian non-profit made up of architects, engineers, surveyors, and construction managers who value Design, Discipleship, and Diversity.

“People restored by God and the world restored through design.”

Since 1982, our worldwide mission is to develop people, design structures, and construct facilities which serve communities and the Church—facilities like hospitals, schools, water systems, and more.

Together, we are designing a world of hope.

CEO & President of EMI

Everyone loves to see something grow... whether it be a child, a vegetable garden, or a group of people connecting in Jesus.

As I’ve reflected on this last year with the pandemic and all that came with it, I’m struck by the emotional and economic effects of this “long winter.” It has been tough.

Yet inside we are all ready to thrive again and inhabit the joy of spring, growth, normalcy, and community. It’s built into us. Seeing things grow brings hope and a deep longing for everything good in this world.

With Jesus anchored tightly as our center, EMI is looking to grow and advance the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

Rejoice with us in God—who loves us and surrounds us with signs of Hope!

Rachel first got involved with EMI in 2017 as an intern. After her internship, she stayed in touch with EMI and looked for ways to continue serving through engineering design. When the Fellowship programme began, Rachel was thrilled to respond to God’s call in joining this ministry again.

The last couple of years have been full of learning, stretching in faith, and seeing God’s provision. It was a tremendous blessing to have worked remotely on projects worldwide while based at EMI Canada.

She will soon be joining the Cambodia team for eight months. Kody and Rachel will be heading to their new home shortly after getting married this month. They look forward to experiencing the culture, trying different foods, and meeting new friends.

There are many excellent, enormous, and exciting changes on the horizon; their prayer is to walk with Lord through all He has planned for this new season.

While studying civil engineering, I was inspired to work with college students in North India. This is uncommon because it’s very different from my home culture in South India. I wanted to guide and encourage students who were going through tough times and depression.

Initially, it was difficult for me to survive in North India, but eventually I had an opportunity to work with hospitals in rural areas. While at one hospital, I found an old EMI project report and I contacted EMI to learn more. Later, I joined the team as a construction project manager.

I’ve served in this role on multiple projects now, continuing onsite during the Covid pandemic. This presented new opportunities to care for the daily labourers in ways that other people usually wouldn’t. I’ve also been able to continue reaching out to North Indian college students alongside my EMI work.
